Question

I paid my federal tax via credit card through TurboTax. However, the IRS still sent me a bill for that same amount. How do I resolve this? Via TurboTax or the IRS?

As explained, in 2020 I owed the IRS money after filing my return.  I used TurboTax's pay by credit card option to pay the remaining balance and have the charge on my credit card statement.  I have now just received a bill from the IRS for that exact same amount.  Do I need to resolve this through TurboTax or the IRS?

You have to resolve it with the IRS.   TurboTax cannot intercede on your behalf with the IRS.  Call the number on the notice you received from the IRS and then follow instructions to show them the proof that you paid your tax due by providing the IRS with a copy of your credit card statement.

IF the charge in your Credit Card account is from Intuit-TurboTax....then that charge was just for the turbotax software fees, and did not pay the IRS.

The IRS taxes-due payment would have to show up as a payment to one of the other CC tax providers that the IRS uses (not sure who they used for 2020 taxes....this year it's ACI Payments, or Pay1040, or payUSAtax . At least, that's who they show on the IRS's direct pay website.)
