If your return was rejected by the IRS, then you can go back into your return and add the income. To do so, follow the directions below.

  • Sign in to your return.
  • Click take me to my return.
  • Click my account, at the top of the page.
  • Select tools , form the drop down menu.
  • Click on topic search, type in 1099-C, and click go.
  • You are now on the page where you enter this type of income.

If your return was accepted by the IRS, then you will need to file an amended tax return for 2016. However, you will need to wait until the original return has been finalized to send this return. You can prepare the return with Turbo Tax software, but you will need to paper-file it with the IRS. Please follow the directions below in order to do so.
