You probably received IRS Letter 5071C, which it sends when it has received a tax return with your name and identifying information, but suspects that it might have been submitted as a result of identity theft.

You can verify your identity with the IRS one of two ways:

• Online at the IRS Identity Verification Service website
• By phone at the toll-free number listed on your 5071C Letter
