I recently started selling items at craft shows. Do I need to file a return for this?

I only sold items at 2 craft shows last year and totaled less than $1,000. I probably spent more than I made.

Unless you are doing this as a business it would be a hobby.  Hobby income is reportable.  You do get a deduction for hobby expenses, but they are part of the miscellaneous itemized deductions.  If you normally use the standard deduction then you will not see a benefit from entering your hobby expenses.  The upside is that you do not have to pay self-employment tax on hobby income.
