If you tried to e-file your return with your dependent on it, and the return was rejected due to their social security already being claimed, you will need to print and mail your return in to the IRS and/or your state as well.

The IRS will process your return and find that another taxpayer has claimed the dependent. They will then reach out to each taxpayer asking for information to prove that you are the one wh should be claiming the dependent.

After receiving all the information back, the IRS will make the determination as to who can claim the dependent. They will then adjust the return of the taxpayer who cannot claim the child.
