Question

I used a CPA that filed my taxes in Feb, at the end of April, I contacted the IRS and was told that due to a mistake that was made I needed to file an Amended refund

which was done so and accepted on 05/02. How long does this normally take? Should I have let the IRS straighten out the mistake on itself own since it was a verification wage hold?

There is nothing you can do now but wait for the original and/or amended return to be processed and this could take MONTHS or even as long as a year.

Processing an amended return normally takes 4 months. But this year is not normal. The IRS is severely backlogged, so it is taking 6 months or longer.

I can't say whether it would have been better to handle it differently. It's not clear what the mistake was, why you contacted the IRS, or why they told you to file an amended return. But that's all water under the bridge now. Since you have already filed the amended return, all you can do is wait for it to be processed.
