Question

I used the turbotax basic tax return tool to receive stimulus benefits and I haven't heard anything back in 2 months. Will I ever get any updates?

So back when the stimulus check was announced, I signed up for this website just to file a basic tax return to get a stimulus check, and I haven't even got an email or anything about the stimulus check. So I figured, maybe it just didn't get sent in or something went wrong so i'll try to use the non-filers tool on the IRS website, and that doesn't even work. I tried contacting turbotax, but i'm not spending money that I don't have to upgrade my account to turbotax plus or whatever, so i'm not able to speak to a representative. Did I get scammed?

TurboTax is not in the business of scamming people out of their stimulus checks.  But there are a lot of people who got confused by the hastily thrown together process to obtain their stimulus checks.  TurboTax has no control over your stimulus check nor can TT track when the IRS will issue it.  If you are being claimed as someone else's dependent, you will not receive a stimulus check.

The IRS can look at either a 2018 or 2019 return to issue a stimulus check to you.  If they do not have a 2018 return for you, then it could be that you are waiting for that "basic tax return" you filed to be processed.  Many returns are taking a very long time to be processed.  We cannot see what information you entered on that return.  Have you checked the IRS refund site to see if it shows anything--it only shows information for returns that should receive refunds.  And if you mailed that return instead of e-filing it, it is still sitting in a trailer full of other unopened mailed returns.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 20 of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
