Question

I've not received my 2019 refund. I've been hung up on for months if I call the IRS directly. The check my status tool doesn't even return results now.

I filed on March 15th, 2020. Received a letter around October that I needed to send an additional form. I did so. I haven't heard anything else.

We're in the same boat. Filed February 2020. Received 5071C in March, promptly verified online. Then supposedly received a CP05 in May (never received this) because they had flagged my account for further review (no clue why). I've called around 40+ times since then. Hung up on 90% of the time. Spoke to someone for 2 hours this morning. All they could do was elevate my file within the review department and tell me to call back in 60 business days if I haven't heard from them.

If you want to get through to a person dial like this when you call: Press 1, 2, 1, 3, 2, when it asks for SSN, do not enter. It will ask twice in a row and then offer more prompts. Enter 2, then 4.

When it is busy, this will still kick you off multiple times but keep trying in quick succession one after another and eventually you will be put on hold to speak to an agent. I got through on my 9th try this morning. All between 7am-8am.

Good luck!

@nickbendeck To contact the IRS regarding your prior year tax return, please see the link below and follow the instructions to get through to a representative:

How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)?

When calling the IRS do not choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.

So after first choosing your language, then do not choose Option 1 (refund info).

  • Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
  • Press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
  • Press 3 "for all other questions.
  • Then press 2 "for all other questions
  • When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.
  • After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
  • Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
  • It should then transfer you to an agent.
