Is there some reason why you do not want to e-file?  Are you aware that the IRS is not even opening the mail right now?

Per the IRS website IRS Operations During COVID-19: Mission-critical functions continueThe IRS is not currently able to process individual paper tax returns. If you already have filed via paper but it has not yet been processed, do not file a second tax return or write to the IRS to inquire about the status of your return or your economic impact payment. Paper returns will be processed  once processing centers are able to reopen.

There is no charge to e-file a tax return when using the TurboTax online editions.  The TurboTax account fees are for the use of the software to assist in completing a tax return when using the Deluxe edition or higher.

The TurboTax Free online edition is for very simple tax returns that do not require any other form or schedule other than the Form 1040.  If your tax data requires entry on any other form or schedule then you must upgrade to the Deluxe edition or higher.

If you have not paid for the online edition you are using, have not filed your tax return or registered the Free edition, then you can clear your return and start over with a lower priced edition. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the program screen while working on the 2020 online tax return. Click on Clear & Start Over.

OR -

You can use the TurboTax Free File Program - https://freefile.intuit.com/

IRS Free File Program - https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/
If you are eligible you can use the IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax which is free to file both a federal and state tax return. The IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax edition is a full featured personal tax program and on a separate website from the TurboTax online editions.

To qualify for free 2020 federal and state tax returns with the IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax, you'll need to meet at least one of these requirements:

  • A maximum 2020 adjusted gross income (AGI) of $39,000; or
  • You qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC); or
  • You served as active duty military (including Reservists and National Guard) with a maximum 2020 AGI of $72,000 (you'll also need a military-issued W-2).

What is the reason you don't want to efile your taxes? Mailed returns are not currently being processed by the IRS and it may take months for them to get all the mailed returns processed once they start again.

When you get to the File section, you have a choice to efile your return or print and mail it. Choose the print and mail option if that is what you want to do. Follow all the steps to completion. You must print and mail the return yourself. TurboTax does not print and mail it for you. Use the filing instructions that print with your return for what to include and where to mail it.

If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees paid from the federal tax refund then you must e-file your tax return.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for removing the pay with federal refund option - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/downgrading/help/how-do-i-remove-pay-with-my-refund-fees-in-turbotax-online-and-change-my-payment-method/01/25880

Otherwise -

Have you paid the fees yet?  You can not have the fees deducted from your refund if you want to mail.  You have to pay with a credit card first.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return. Don’t forget state.

Important! Mail Federal and State in separate envelopes and mail each year in separate envelopes.

By the way, They are not processing mailed returns right now. See this IRS page for the latest information
