Question

I was traveling a lot last month and just realized that I missed the deadline (Jan 31, 2017) for e-filing 1099-MISC for 2 contractors. What should I do now?

Even if you miss the deadline for submitting your forms to the IRS you must still submit the forms. This is especially important so that the IRS can match the 1099-misc income listed by your contractors on their return to the forms you submit. So send the forms in anyway as soon as possible.

File them as soon as possible and get a copy to the recipients. If you get a late penalty from the IRS, contact them immediately and request an abatement(waiver of penalty) for cause.
