Question

If have inadvertently placed the stimulus receipts in the wrong sections. i did receive both but left out the fist payment. should i file a 1040X

both stimulus were rcv'd but i left out the first payment and put in the second payment.  feds changed my return of $xx.00 to $0.00 stating that now I have to return coming??

No, if the IRS already adjusted the error with the Recovery Rebate Credit then you do not need to file Form 1040X.

 

Please be aware that your total refund shown on line 34 of Form 1040 included any Recovery Rebate Credit in line 30. Therefore, if you made an error with the Recovery Rebate Credit and the IRS adjusted the error it might be possible that your refund changed to $0 if you did not have any other refund due. Please review you Form 1040 carefully to see if you had any other refund besides the false Recovery Rebate Credit.
