If I delete my State return & file my Federal, after my Fed. is accepted, will TT assist with my State when I start over or will I have to input everything manually?

I owe my Ca. State (for the first time in over 10 years), but I have a Federal Refund. I would like to file to receive my refund as fast as possible, but would like to hold off on my State because Ca. forces a Direct Debit, and if I file Fed and State together, State might Debit before the Feds deposit.

Can I delete my State information, eFile my Federal, and then (once my refund is deposited) restart and eFile my State? If I start over, will TT use my Federal information and assist with a quickly filing my State? Or will I have to go over all the basic questions again, and input everything manually? I have 2 children in college and it's a messy business. I know I will have to pay the $40 for State. Can I simply go back to "Add a State" and TT will auto-assist me like the first time?

What I would do, is just tell TurboTax you are going to file the State by mail, and then e-file the Federal return.  CA will not do any auto debit as no state of CA return has been filed.

Then later you can go back in and change the State method to e-file if you want.

Or you can do as you are suggesting and delete the State of CA.  When you add it back later actually about 80% of the state is finished when you do the Federal return as so much transfers right over.

You will have to however go over the questions again in the state if you do delete it, that is why I prefer the first option.
