I am a first generation college student and didn't know about the 1098T till this year but I had one for 2019 and didn't add it because I didn't know I needed to.

If you are not claimed as a dependent on your parents return you should consider filing an amended tax return.  If you are claimed as a dependent on your parents tax return then they should file for the Credit.

If you qualify for the American Opportunity Credit the refund could be substantial.

The American Opportunity credit can reduce your tax liability by up to a $2,500 for educational expenses you or a dependent student incur during the first four years of post-secondary schooling.

The credit is calculated based on the amount you pay for tuition, fees, books and supplies required for the coursework. The credit is only available to students who enroll at least half-time for one or more academic semesters during the tax year and are pursuing a degree or other recognized credential.
