Question

If I file my deceased brothers tax return and I get a refund, will I need to claim that refund on my tax return?

No, if you are your brother's heir and you wind up receiving his income tax return, it is nontaxable, because inheritances aren't taxable.

I'm sorry for your loss. Please see this link for some more information: https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/tax-tips/Family/Death-in-the-Family/INF12090.html and the FAQ below.
