Question

If I filed my 2019 taxes but did not qualify for a return how will I receive my second stimulus?

They're saying they will deposit the second stimulus into the bank account you use to file 2019's taxes. But I did not qualify for a return last year, however I have filed taxes on TurboTax before and my bank information is still the same. It is even the same as it was for the first stimulus. I'm just curious how I might receive my stimulus.

Check the IRS Get My Payment tool. The tool should tell you where your stimulus payment was deposited or mailed. The IRS has indicated there’s nothing you can do to change where they send your payment.

If you do not receive the stimulus payment, you can make an adjustment on your 2020 tax return for stimulus payments you qualify for, but have not received.

To do this in TurboTax, please follow these steps:

  1. Enter the information in your return.
  2. Click Federal Review at the top of your screen.
  3. On the screen, Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click Continue.
  4. You will be asked about the amounts of first round and second round stimulus payments you received
  5. TurboTax will then calculate the amount of stimulus payment remaining that you are still entitled to.  This will show as a credit on line 30 of the 1040.

The answer told you how to apply for tax credit on your 2020 tax return for the stimulus payments that you have not received.

When you complete your federal tax return in the File section of the program on Step 2 you can enter a bank routing and account number for a direct deposit of the federal tax refund.  The tax credits are included in the federal tax refund.
