Question

If I have already filed my taxes and have been accepted by the IRS, but I have received a discrepancy letter and corrected form, do I need to amend my taxes?

No, you do not need to file an amended return if you agree with the changes the IRS has stated in the letter they sent you.

If you agree with the changes, mark the letter you received from the IRS, that you agree with the changes.  Make any payment that may be due and mail the letter to the IRS.

If you do not agree with the changes in the letter the IRS sent you then, Yes, you need to file an amended return to show them why you do not agree with the changes.

Mark the letter you received from the IRS that you do not agree with the changes and the reasons why.  Complete your amended return to mail back to the IRS with the letter they sent you.
