Question

If I received a corrected W2 with only box 12a and 12 b corrected, do I have to amend my return?

Yes, you need to amend your income tax return if you received a corrected W-2 (the "corrected" box is checked) and the amounts in box 12a and/or 12b changes your refund or tax due amount.

 

To see if it affects your refund or tax due, go through the amend process just make sure you rename your .tax file. See the amend instructions below.

 

You may also need to amend your state return if it changes your state refund or tax due (if you live in a state that has an income tax).
