Question

If I want to complete my 2017 tax return, and the system is not permitting access to continue with a free trial, how do I access my unfinished 2017 electronic tax return?

Sounds like you were probably using the On-Line version of TTax (which you would access via a web browser), and not the Desktop version you would install on your own computer.

Unfortunately, the On-Line version ALWAYS shuts down around Oct 15 of each year to start preparations for the new tax year.  Once the On-Line version shuts down it is unlikely that you will be able to reliably retrieve the data --unless you had paid in advance.

Your most reliable and timely option at this point is to purchase a download copy of TTax for 2017.

You can purchase CD (or Download) from TTax at this link:

Please be aware that the current screen graphics display make it somewhat confusing regarding Windows or MAC and whether you want a CD or download.   Please read carefully; the choice to order a CD is shown in much smaller letters.

When mailing your return it is advisable to actually go to the Post Office and mail your return with a 'Return Receipt' required.  That way you will receive written confirmation from the Post Office that your return was indeed delivered to the IRS.
