Question

If my old employer entered my SSN incorrectly on my W2, do I just contact them to fix it and will they have to send me a new on? How long does that usually take?

I got my W2 in the mail and my SSN is off by one number. Do I only have to contact the employer to have it fixed?

Yes. Contact the previous employer to let them know the social security number is incorrect. They should issue a corrected W-2 form. For more information, please visit the IRS help article below.
