If my tax refund is late, how will I know if there is a problem with my tax return? It says my return is still being processed. What does that mean?

My estimated refund date was March 9th in the amount of $6982. I chose to pay TurboTax fee out of my refund.

It means that the IRS is still working on your tax return. If you are concerned about the status of your tax return, you can follow these steps to contact the IRS about your return:  Call the IRS at this number: 800-829-0582 (IRS phone support) Press 1 for English, then enter extension 652. Please be aware that there are reported 40 minute average hold times.

Is there a problem with my refund

There are a lot of delays for federal refunds. Once your tax return has been submitted, the most up to date information will come from the IRS. The IRS releases most refunds within 21 calendar days after the e-filed return has been accepted (received), not 21 days from the e-filing date. To check on regular tax refund status via automated phone, call 800-829-1954. (This line has no information on Economic Impact Payments.)The only other way to know when your refund will be released is to use the IRS Where's My Refund tool.

Until the IRS starts processing it on their own, you may not find record of it or the website may say that you have put in incorrect information when tracking your federal refund. As your return moves through the system, the status of it will be updated accordingly. Please see here  for more information on checking the status of an e-filed return.

If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status as it moves through the process here.

See the video in this link for a really good explanation of the process:
