In 2016, I received a notice from the state of Kentucky that my 2014 tax report was wrong & I had to re-pay $292.00. Can I claim that somewhere

Yes, state income taxes are part of the itemized deductions. To enter, login and follow these instructions:

  1. Click 'Take me to my return'
  2. Next, select the 'Federal Taxes' tab and then click the 'Deductions & Credits' tab below it
  3. If you have the blue button 'Check for more tax breaks' click it, and then click 'Skip to see all tax breaks' (or other variation, get to the 'full listing')
  4. Scroll down to the 'Estimates and Other Taxes Paid' section and click the blue hyperlink 'Show more'
  5. Click 'Start/Revisit' next to 'Other Income Taxes'
  6. Click 'Start' next to the last option, "Payments for 2014 or a prior year state or local income taxes paid in 2016" On the next screen you'll be able to enter your payment.

Keep in mind, it will only have an impact if you itemize. Let me know if you have questions.
