Question

In attempting to amend my return my original return has been altered on my desktop. Can I retrieve my original filed return.

Can I retrieve my e-filed return?

You need to save the original tax return before amending.   Then save amended return with a unique name.

In the File menu on the top left of the desktop program screen click on Save As... to give the return a unique name.

I followed the instructions and recreated my original return by eliminating the 1040x and restoring my original deductions, now when I try to amend this corrected return no 1040x is created and the refund calculator stay at my original numbers.
