Initially I owed money on my federal&state returns. Then I amended the forms after noticing some errors and now I'll receive refunds. Do I still pay the amount owed?

From the first return I've already sent the first payment by check (as I selected to pay by checks). Now after the amendments, I'll receive refunds so do I still send the rest of the payments by check for rest of the year & will I get compensated for these amount along with the refunds? Or do I not send the rest of the payments and wait to be reimbursed for the amount I've already sent & got deducted?

It takes approximately 14 weeks to process an amended return.  Therefore, if you are on an installment agreement, it is suggested that you continue with the terms of the agreement until the 1040X is processed.  Otherwise, you may be subject to enforcement actions.

Or, you can contact the Internal Revenue Service at 1-800-829-1040 to inform them that the 1040X is pending.  They may annotate your file to prevent any enforcement actions from being taken if you choose to default on your agreement.

If you are not on an official installment agreement, then you have a choice of making payments.  However, once a final notice is received and the Form 1040X has not been processed, you should make arrangements to pay the tax.

Any over-payments on your account will be refunded to you once the Form 1040X is processed.
