IRS says the amended tax refund has been completed 3 days ago, but actually not received

I received a notice from IRS that my amended tax return has been approved and i should receive my return in 2-3 weeks. Today I query the status from IRS website and it says the refund has completed 3 days ago and I 'should have received the refund'. But actually, I don't receive anything. Does anyone know this situation and tells how long will the money appears in my bank account? Thanks so much.

It may still be enroute, Refunds for amended returns are made only by a check mailed to you. The IRS uses bulk mail, which is slower than First Class.

I am a mail carrier and the IRS never sends anything bulk rate. Everything is sent first class. Whenever a letter is sent first class it can take anywhere from 2 to 4 business days to receive it. Sometimes when a letter is mailed within the same city you may receive it the next day.

Not sure why anyone thinks they send anything bulk mail. Not possible.

Did the website tell you when you return was mailed? Or you called the IRS ?

According to the IRS, the same method of payment is used and cannot be changed. If you originally received a check or direct deposit, you will receive it back the same way. It cannot be changed.

They only mail checks for refunds.  No Direct Deposit.

See 1040X instructions top of page 17

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040x.pdf

It says.....You will receive a check for any refund due to you. A refund on an amended return can’t be deposited directly to your bank account.

Other posters also state they receive DD for amended. I was forced to approve the refund being sent back as DD. I wanted to get a check and the website stated that was not an option. I had to receive it the same as I had originally selected. I wasn't allowed to receive a check. Again, others here received DD for amended. Look in the other poster comments.

Hi I filed an amendment back in March 2019. Of course I figured as Covid swept across the nation it was going to be delayed. I've waited patiently so I assume. I got a letter stating my adjustment was made on Jan 8th 2021 and that paper stated they "credited" my account (what does credited my account mean??) with the amount owed and that they would issue a refund within 2-4 weeks. Online at that point only stated it was adjusted. Jan 28th 2021 they finally completed the amended return. I waited the 4 weeks and called in and spoke to a representative and the lady said to give them 2-4 weeks to send the refund? By now I'm frustrated, I've researched I've called I have also went to the website countless times to figure out what's going on but now here it is March 8th 2021 and I still have yet to receive anything which is bazaar seeing I've gotten 2 stimulus checks and just filed my taxes for 2020 and should be getting those any day but yet my account is credited. Why have they not sent what's owed? When should I begin to think I need to talk to someone? And by someone meaning do I need to go into my nearest IRS office? Can someone please shed light on my situation I need this money bad as anyone would considering the circumstances. Had I owed the IRS they would have taken there money asap anyway they could but when that money's due to me or anyone it's an arm and a leg! Again any advise any thoughts as to what I should do I feel like a closed mouth don't get fed but everything I've done to redeem my money as ended at a road block.

Perhaps a tax advocate could help.

@powerispersuasion "Regular"mail IS first class mail.    The IRS does not use certified mail or any sort of mail with tracking to send your refund in the mail.  It just comes in an envelope.

This has happened to me for my 2022 refund. The IRS told me it was deposited into some other account, not the one listed on my tax documents that it was supposed to have been sent to. I did not authorize this and there is no information about it anywhere.

@DaniP97

if you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund then the banking information on the tax form is the information to send your refund to the third party bank.  That bank gets your refund first from the IRS.  They take out your TurboTax fees and send the rest to you---and that bank has YOUR direct deposit information.

When you choose "refund processing"   TurboTax gets its fees when the IRS releases your refund.  Your refund goes to the third party bank.  The bank takes out your fees and then that bank sends the rest of the refund to you.

What is Refund Processing Service?

Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, LLC  (SBTPG) is the bank that handles the Refund Processing Service when you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your refund. This option also has an additional charge from the bank that processes the transaction.

It’s been OVER 2 months since I was told my refund was sent to MY BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER. So I am being lied to when it says that is where it is sent to. I call the “third party bank” everyday and everyday for the past 2 months I am told I will see my refund in 2-3 days and I am unable to talk to a person about it.. EVERY.DAY. FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS I am being told I will see it in 2-3 business days. So no, this isn’t right and my money that is owed to me will not be released to me. This is a scam and the IRS themselves have told me never to trust you people because you pull this garbage.

I'm checking on my amended refund because IRS is done with my identity and everything else everything has been processed like I paid for the amount what they said that about my refund so they saying it's already done and process so I'm just waiting on my refund so I was wondering what's going on with it it still hasn't returned to my account

Yeah I can reach me at [phone number removed].

Turbo Tax doesn’t know about your amended return.   The IRS doesn’t update Turbo Tax.  Only the IRS can tell you.  Did you wait to amend until the first original return was done processing and you got the first refund or paid the tax due?
