I filed my taxes in 2019 to update my adrress and bank info to get stimulus check faster that was 4/24/20. My taxes was accepted 4/29/20 and still no stimulus check. Y is that??? Can’t check info cause it’s says there records don’t match mine. Crazy **bleep** I am laid off and I need that 1200 check. Also irs says I owe 3,000 in back taxes. They r crazy they owe me money now. They were taxing me on 8652 from capital 1 for cancellation of debt. That is a bankrupsy and capt. 1 has a law suite (class action) for 10.5 million over that **bleep** they were not aloud to do. So therefor my taxes were taking again now irs owes me all that money back. How about I charge them interest and all that like they did me. Someone better be giving me my money back ASAP. I am on SSDI too I didn’t have to file but still no stumulys check either.irs has taking 2800 in the last 4 yrs. wrong I only owed on the unemployment so somebody better be cutting me a check for all capital one monies. I have paperwork I can prove it. And my stimulus update would be nice. I should of freakin had it 4 weeks ago. I am livid and somebody better make it right or I will take them to the freakin bank by sewing u can’t just take people’s money like that. I need and want answers ASAP. Irs thinks there above the law now I have proof and I am coming after my money the assholes took. Funny u can never talk to anybody at the irs office. I think it was planned that wat

The IRS offices are currently operating at very limited capacity. This is why you are not able to speak to a representative.  Also, they are not accepting phone calls in regard to the economic impact payments (stimulus checks).

The IRS is still processing these payments and the only way to check on your status is the tool on their website, which as you have discovered does not work for everyone.

Although the IRS has not published a timeline for processing payments once returns are filed to update information, most taxpayers are seeing a turnaround time of approximately 6-8 weeks.

Once the IRS resumes normal operations, you should work with them about the tax debt that they have on file for you.  I would not wait for the resolution of the lawsuit, as there are simpler ways to handle the situation. Not all discharged debt is subject to tax, but to claim one of the exclusions from taxation, you must file a return and let the IRS know which exclusion applies to you.

You can learn more about discharged debt which is not subject to tax here: Tax Topic 431 Canceled Debt.

TurboTax does not support all of the ways to claim exemption from discharge of debt and we generally recommend that you contact a tax professional near you for assistance with this.  There are a number of volunteer organizations that can assist you for free in some situations. You can find more about that here: Free Tax Return Preparation options.
