Is it common for earned income tax credit to be adjusted because of math error and how should I fix it?

Yes.   And the "math error" does NOT mean that there was a calculation error - it simply means that the IRS changed something on your tax return (income not reported usually) and the change causes the EIC to be calculated "differently* after the missing income is added.

 

The letter should tell you what was changed.
