If you've already filed you have to amend your turn to make any changes. You cannot e-file an amended return.  They have to be mailed, and it takes about 16 weeks for the IRS to process an amended return. 3 weeks after you mailed your amendment, you can start tracking its progress at the IRS Where's My Amended Return? site. What do you mean by "file a claim"? Are you needing to add more information to your already filed return?

Well, I wasn't aware that I could claim the laptop I bought for school as an expense. Is it too late to go back and add it?
