Question

Is there any update on when 2020 taxes can be amended? I filed over two months ago and got accepted, but I still cannot amend my taxes, I need to change them asap.

I did not claim myself this year, I thought my parents were going to claim me, but they decided not to this year, so I need to change that soon. My return has been accepted for over two months, I was waiting until 3/25/2021 because of the message that was on the amend screen, but it has been over a week since the 25th and its the same thing but with no date. When can I amend my taxes?

I thought my parents were going to claim me, but they decided not to this year.

Fist things first. The rule is whether you qualify to be your parents' dependent, not whether whether they actually claim you.  They can choose not to, but that does not necessarily mean you can file as Independent.  So let's check:  How old were you on 12/31/2020?  Were you a full time student in 2020?  How much was your income?

If you do meet the criteria for filing as Independent, you must wait until the IRS has fully processed your original return (and paid your refund) before amending.
