Question

Just filed my 17 yr olds taxes. Just found out she didn't need to file because she only made $4000 last year. Why did the Turbo Tax program allow us to continue?

There was nothing wrong with having your teenager file a tax return. If she had tax withheld then she can get a refund. And if she earned money that was reported on a 1099Misc she is required to file even if she earned over $400.
