Made an amend to my original tax refund so I could remove the recovery rebate credit. Now the irs says I owe them 1200$? That has to be wrong can someone help me please?

The recovery rebate credit lowers the amount of tax you must pay. Remove it and the tax goes up.

If you amended to remove the recovery rebate credit, the 1040-X would say you owe $1,200.

That is consistent with the IRS saying you owe $1,200.

The IRS beat you to it and corrected your return and all other filed returns with a similar error.
