I filed my return for 2019 on time by mail, I received it back from irs because I forgot to sign it, I signed it and mailed it back 5 months ago,  The irs is showing 2019 never received, should I refile? should it be filed as an amended return so it doesn't create confusion.

No, don't file an amended return because:

    • You can’t amend a return that hasn’t been filed yet.
    • You can't amend a return if the original return was accepted by the IRS but does not have an adjustment which affects your refund or amount due.

Before sending in another copy of your 2019 income tax return, see if the IRS has a transcript of it.

    • If the IRS has a copy, don't send in a copy.
    • If the IRS doesn't have a copy, send it again but get a USPS delivery confirmation.
