More than 50 days since filing and no federal refund nor status updates

My husband and I filed our first joint return since getting married in 7/2019, and the IRS says they received our refund on 3/31. Our California state refund was directly deposited into our account only days after we filed.. why is the federal refund taking so long? I can’t call them to ask because of COVID-19; it’s just an automated response. In the “where’s my refund” app, there are no bars and it just says “processing”. Help! Turbo tax has been 0 help.

Once your return has been accepted by the IRS, the refund process is completely under the control of the IRS. The IRS says that most refunds would be issued within 21 days. But some returns need more processing and refunds will take longer, especially during these Covid-19 times when some IRS agents still work remotely.

Please be patient, the situation will get better soon as some IRS agents are returning to their desks. You can check the status of your refund at this IRS web portal.

Yes, I said I have been checking the portal status. @MinhT1 Did you happen To get your federal refund? If so, how long did it take from when you filed? We didn’t file for any extra credits so it shouldn’t take longer, and neither my husband nor I have ever had issues with the IRS in the past. I wouldn’t need these stimulus Payments if I had my refund. I understand that COVID-19 is making things take longer, but your answer is the same as the info I found online.. I’m looking for new info. Thanks anyway.
