Must I file my amended Fed return by mail? The instructions say to, but when I e-filed my amended State return, it indicated my amended Fed return was also e-filed.

Check the status of your amended return

You can check the status of your amended return with the Where's My Amended Return? tool. It may take up to 3 weeks for your amended return to show in the IRS system.

However, if your Filing Instructions say you need to mail your Amended Return, you may need to do so. There should be an address shown to send the return to.

Since we can't see your return in this forum, we can't say why your amended return would need to be mailed, but this does apply to certain returns.
