No -- if you used standard deduction on your 2021 return you do not have to enter the state refund you received.

It doesn't matter whether you're claiming the standard deduction this year.

You'll report it on this year's return as taxable income if:

  • You itemized deductions last year,  and
  • You claimed state and local income taxes (not general sales taxes), and
  • Claiming the deduction helped you increase your federal refund or lower your tax bill

Just go ahead and enter it into TurboTax, and the program will determine whether it's taxable or not.

Please see the TurboTax Help article Do I need to report the state or local refund I got last year? Is it taxable? for more information.
