Question

My ex claimed my daughter on his taxes as a dependent. She put on her taxes that she was not claimed anywhere else. How can I amend this for her?

Depends whose return rejected.  Your ex or hers?  If her return rejected because your ex already filed then she only has to fix it and resend it.  And not amend.

She was rejected. She put she wasn't listed as a dependent anywhere else and he apparently claimed her. We tried three times to fix it and it keeps getting rejected. When we 'revisit' the return, it doesn't even pop up where she could change it to yes instead of no.

Can you get back into her return?  Do not Amend!  Click on Add a State to let you back into your retun. Then go to My Info, Click Edit by her name and scroll down to # 3.  I'll post a screen shot below.  If you already started amending you need to cancel out of that, so post back if you did.

Thanks, VolvoGirl, I really misread that.

I did it! We'll see if it gets accepted. Thanks both of you for the help. I'll see what happens.

Since her return rejected she can just fix it and resend it.  Go to My Info Click Edit by her name and scroll down to #3

You would have to go back to My Information and answer the questions to say she could be claimed by some else and was claimed by someone else.  Amendments are filed by mail and it takes the IRS up to 16 weeks to process them.
