My irs tax return status says I'm locked out too many attempts but I tried it for the first time today

    There was probably a snag with your web browser. Sometimes this happens when the browser refreshes and the IRS system receives a signal for multiple attempts. You won't be able to check the status using the website until tomorrow. If it keeps happening, you will need to contact the IRS directly. 

    You can also try calling their automated line to check the status over the phone by dialing 800-829-1954
