Question

Need to amend my NJ return submitted on 4/15 that has not been accepted. Do I get 3 days to amend from when it was submitted? Or 3 days from when accepted? Deadline?

I filed my NJ state return on 4/15. I realized I need to additional medical deductions. I want to amend, but the return has not been accepted as of 4/17.  Do I get 3 days to amend from when return was submitted? Or 3  days to amend from when return is accepted? Then what happens to the filing deadline if I'm amending?

You will need to wait until your return has been Accepted before you can Amend your return.  As long as you filed your original return before the tax deadline (even if it is still Pending) you have met the tax deadline requirement, and you can file your Amendment as soon as your return is Accepted.

For more details on this, please see this posting from the New Jersey Department of Taxation here.

you get three years to amend your return, not three days.

Right now there is an issue with NJ efile being stuck at PENDING for TurboTax users.
