Its a week past the date I was supposed to get my return. I got an email saying it was accepted but nothing else.

    If you haven't gotten your refund, perhaps you had a refund offset. If the IRS made changes to your income tax return, you should get an IRS explanation letter. You could also get an IRS transcript. It's online and free.

    • A Tax Account Transcript - shows basic data such as return type, marital status, adjusted gross income, taxable income and all payment types. It also shows changes made after you filed your original return. 

     

    Other reasons some returns take longer to process are the following: 

    • Includes errors
    • Is incomplete
    • Is affected by identity theft or fraud
    • Includes a claim filed for an Earned Income Tax Credit or an Additional Child Tax Credit. See Q&A below.
    • Includes a Form 8379, which could take up to 14 weeks to process
    • Needs further review in general
    • The IRS will contact you by mail when we need more information to process your return.
