Hi all,

My tax was mailed and received on May 18th with USPS priority mail. I used the check my refund status tool with IRS and I couldn't even find any information regarding my tax status. The website shows that they

"cannot provide any information about your refund. Be sure to:

  • verify your filing date;
  • check with your tax preparer"

What could this mean? I entered all my information correctly and has checked a couple of times. I couldn't file electronically because I have a form 8833 to attach to my tax return. What could this mean? Could it mean that my paper was lost and never delivered to IRS? USPS tracking does show that it was delivered though... Anyone with the same issue? I tried calling them but the system just tells me it was overloaded and to try on another day... The deadline is coming soon so I want to know if I should keep 1) trying to call them, 2) file again, or 3) file electronically and forfeit my return from 8833

The IRS has not processed paper tax return for several months due to the pandemic.  They have just recently started the processing in the order received.

Go to this IRS website for information - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

We’re experiencing delays in processing paper tax returns due to limited staffing. If you already filed a paper return, we will process it in the order we received it.

Do not file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.
