There are a lot of delays for federal refunds this year. The IRS is working overtime to get stimulus payments sent out to you and process your tax returns. Per the IRS website IRS Operations During COVID-19: Mission-critical functions continue: Please visit here and see all services that have slowed down or been delayed due to Covid-19.

Once your tax return has been submitted, the most up to date information will come from the IRS. The IRS releases most refunds within 21 calendar days after the e-filed return has been accepted (received), not 21 days from the e-filing date.

To check on regular tax refund status via automated phone, call 800-829-1954. (This line has no information on Economic Impact Payments.)The only other way to know when your refund will be released is to use the IRS Where's My Refund tool. Until the IRS starts processing it on their own, you may not find record of it or the website may say that you have put in incorrect information when tracking your federal refund. As your return moves through the system, the status of it will be updated accordingly. Please see here  for more information on checking the status of an e-filed return.

If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status as it moves through the process here.

See the video in this link for a really good explanation of the process:

An employee answer I saw said.....

When your file your tax return successfully and you choose to pay your fees from your Federal refund, the TurboTax program considers the fee paid, even though the federal refund has not been released yet. This is why you see "Payment Completed".

As soon as your return is accepted by the IRS, your info shows at SBTPG, it should have your expected refund amount and it will say that they have not received your refund yet. Once they have your return it will update and tell you when they received it, what they received, what they deducted and when they sent it to your direct deposit account.

I seen this on another post asking why it states pending  for the order status! @VolvoGirl  @alarconarocio

Did you elect to have the fees deducted from your refund?

If so, this is why it is pending. The payment is not sent to Turbo Tax until you receive your refund.

My payment status went from “pending” to “complete” and I haven’t received my federal return yet.

The payment complete status is a just an automatic TurboTax system update and does not mean that the IRS has released your refund or that the TurboTax fee has actually been paid from your refund.

Once you have confirmed that your refund has been released by the IRS and you have selected a Refund Transfer from Santa Barbara TPG (who will issue your refund) you may check the status of your Refund Transfer by visiting their website.

I’m sorry, but you’re incorrect. My TT payment status changed from “pending” to “complete” last night. And my federal refund is finally changed to approved last night and being deposited.

April 30, 2021

My changed today to complete does that mean I will see a refund soon

April 30, 2021

Yes, check the IRS app tomorrow, it updates between 3am-6am.

When you signed up for Pay with Refund, you also agreed to let TT takes its fees if your refund was delayed beyond a certain point, so that may be what happened.  But TT notifies you first.

Check the IRS website to see if your refund has actually been issued.

@Murphh52

This is just notifying you your payment of your fees has been processed.  To get a better idea as to when your refund will be processed and sent, please see our tracking guide here.

So it says completed today but was pending yestetday should i get my refund soon i filed on 1/22was accepted the 24 and it was pending till today now says completed

February 22, 2022

Only the IRS can confirm when you will receive your refund and that timeframe can vary for a number of reasons. If you saw a positive update today then the WMR tool should update to let you know your expected refund date - just keep checking the status @Hkbxmama.

It still has no updated for me im really confused but my bank has my amount and the account number but i still dont have my refund yet

The IRS issues most refunds from e-filed returns in about 21 days, although some returns take more time to review. The IRS issues refunds, not TurboTax. This means that we can't say for sure why you haven’t received your refund if it's been longer than 21 days since you e-filed. You'll have to speak directly to IRS to find out more about the delay. For more information, please see the FAQ link provided below:

Will it change to compete once turbotax gets there money

March 3, 2022

Refunds usually take about 21 days after the IRS has accepted your e-filed return. Although, sometimes it can take longer. The IRS is taking more than 21 days (and up to 90 to 120 days) to issue refunds for tax returns with the Recovery Rebate Credit, Earned Income Tax Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit. Please see What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days? for more information.

If the IRS has accepted your e-filed return, you can check the status of your refund by going directly to https://www.irs.gov/refunds.

Can anyone clarify if the now completed status means we will get refund?

@Amzinglyme   Please return to your post and scroll up to the complete reply directly above your own question.   That reply explains what "payment completed" means.   NO, it does not mean the IRS has issued your refund now.   It only means that TurboTax considers that your payment for using the software has been completed.

what this means order status: payment completed turbotax

Employee
August 19, 2022

@Daivon33 If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, all that "payment completed" message means is that TurboTax knows that they will get their payment when the IRS issues your refund.   Do NOT misunderstand and think it means your refund is on its way right now.   Only the IRS controls when your refund will be issued.   TurboTax does not get any information from the IRS after you file your tax return.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2021 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.
