I filed amended federal return in 2018, but neglected to keep a copy of my original return. How can I find a copy of the original return?.

You can get free transcripts of your federal return from the IRS - http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript

For a fee of $50 you can get a complete federal tax return from the IRS by completing Form 4506 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf

    @William H Bennett

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

If you did not keep a copy of the original return BEFORE you amended it then the original return has been overwritten permanently ... you can get a copy from the IRS.

HOW CAN I DOWNLOAD A COPY?

If you filed in TurboTax Online last year, here's the original article on how to print/download it, or you can read below:

Before starting, make sure you're using the same TurboTax account (with the same username) as previous years.

You'll get access to your prior year returns through Your tax returns & documents in Tax Home.

If you don't already have access and you’re planning on filing with TurboTax this year, you can register or pay first and then go back to work on your taxes later.

    To access:

    1. If you haven't chosen yet, pick the product that is right for you (if you aren’t sure, select TurboTax Free Edition) when starting.
    2. Follow the screens and provide some personal info.
    3. When you've reached the Personal info summary screen, select Continue.
    4. Select File in the left menu (this is just a step in order to register or pay, you won’t actually be filing).
    5. Continue until you get to Review your order and select Start.
    6. Select View payment options.
    7. Register or pay for TurboTax, depending on which version you're using.
    8. Go to Tax Home in the left menu.
    9. Under Your tax returns & documents, go to Download/print return (PDF) (select Show if not visible).
