Overseas, 1st Timer E-filed, Mailed Returns, Didn't Sign.

Hi everyone,

I feel foolish, so I will leave it at that.

Sent my returns nearly a month early but I forgot to sign. I owe nothing being I have foreign earned income. Still, it's my first time eFiling, and I made a big mistake.

I am worried because I have an overseas address. I have my family's U.S. address (which I reported), but even if the IRS send my returns to there, I couldn't receive them in time (due to Covid messing up the international mail).

I sent my returns from overseas to the U.S., just to be clear.

Should I just send in another return, this time signed?

Thank you

Your post says "1st Timer E-Filed, Mailed Returns". Did you efile your return or mail it? If you efiled it, there is nothing more you need to do and you didn't need to mail it unless the efile was rejected and you couldn't get it accepted

If you did not efile but mailed only, the IRS urges filers not to send in more than one mailed tax return. However, since the IRS will send your return back to you to get signatures, I would go ahead and mail another copy of the return. Put a note on it that it is a duplicate and the original was not signed.

The IRS is way behind processing mailed returns so they may not have even opened your return yet.

Thank you for replying. Turbotax told me I have to mail in my Federal and my State, so I printed it out and mailed it in. Thus, my dilemma.I assumed it was down to laws due to my situation. Thank you.
