Question about just filed tax return

I just filed my return, but discovered I neglected to count SS benefits as income. I retired in 2020 and received 4 months of SS benefits. Can I report this on my 2021 return, or should I file an amended return now.

You should include it on your 2020 return.  However, don't submit an amendment until you find out if your return is accepted or rejected.

If rejected, you can revisit your return to add your social security benefits: How do I fix a rejected return?

If accepted, you will need to amend your tax return to make these corrections: How to amend (change or correct) a return you already filed
