You are asking this question in a user to user forum and nobody here can see your income tax return or your computer screen, so the question is somewhat vague since we don't know what "this" is.

But if you've successfully filed an income tax return, either by mail or via e-file and have received acknowledgement that the e-filed income tax return has been accepted, then if you want to make changes to that filed income tax return then you do need to "amend" that income tax return.  You can't simply make changes to your original "as filed" income tax return and then mail that new income tax return to the taxing authorities.
