My Federal refund is suppose to be $11,728 but according to the IRS it is now only $8,228 as for the following reasons:

  • The Social Security number of one or more individuals claimed as a qualifying dependent was missing or incomplete.
  • The last name of one or more individuals claimed as a qualifying dependent does not match our records.
  • One or more individuals claimed as a qualifying dependent exceeds the age limit.
  • Your adjusted gross income exceeds $75,000 ($150,000 if married filing jointly, $112,500 if head of household).
  • The amount was computed incorrectly.

Although all of these were up to date and double checked thoroughly before submitting our taxes. What could we possible do to correct this error?

That is a generic message they give you when your refund is going to be reduced.   One of the most likely reasons for 2021 is an error made when you entered the amount you received for the 3rd EIP payment or the amount entered for the advance child tax credit payments.    No one at TurboTax knows---the IRS does not give any information to TT when they reduce your refund, so you will have to wait for the more explicit letter that you will receive in a few weeks.
