Refund is showing "federal tax credits" is this money I will recieve?

No, you don't receive the federal tax credits amount, you receive the refund amount (which may include federal tax credits). 

 

There are two types of tax credits, refundable and non-refundable. Both types can increase your refund, depending on your income and deductions. 

 

On the 1040, your income is added up and then your income tax is calculated (line 16 of 1040). If your income tax liability is more than $0, your non-refundable tax credits (line 19 and 20) are applied to reduce your tax to $0. If you have extra non-refundable tax credits, they don't increase your refund any more.

 

Refundable tax credits are treated as payments and can increase your refund even if you owe no tax.
