Refund sent to closed bank account

I filed for my refund, but I had forgotten that I had closed an old bank account and opened a new one. My refund was sent to that account, but then sent back to the IRS, or TurboTax (I'm not sure). What are my options? I really need that money.

If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected.  If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it.  The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS.  Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return.

Do an online billpay out of that account or write a check for a $1. Unfortunately I worked in banking and customers would get very upset when they closed an account but a debit came through and opened it back up. I'm going to be honest you will probably get an overdraft fee if it's a check. Ask your bank if debits will open the account back up if it has been closed for less than 30 days.

I have had the same thing happen to me. I applied for a tax advance and realized after filing Credit Karma closed my account randomly after having for four years.  877-908-7228 is the direct number to TPG the company that processes fees and send the refunds to the bank accounts.  If the account is closed TPG will issue a cashiers check to the last know address on file and if that is returned they with send to the IRS after. Hopefully.
