Question

Should I add that my husband worked in California in 2021, even though it was only about 30 days? And not consecutive days, just over the course of 2021.

Yes. California taxes nonresidents for work performed while being physically present in CA. File a nonresident California return and report the income.

As a nonresident, you pay tax on your taxable income from California sources.

Sourced income includes, but is not limited to:

  • Services performed in California
  • Rent from real property located in California
  • The sale or transfer of real California property
  • Income from a California business, trade or profession

Part-year resident and nonresident
