Not yet.  Do not amend your return until your return is accepted and processed.  It is possible that you have code error 570 because the IRS has caught the error when matching what you reported to what your employer reported and is or will be sending you a letter.  They may make the correction on their own and let you know they made the correction.  So, hold off doing anything until you receive further guidance from the IRS.

If the code 570 is not due to them catching this error, then you will need to Amend Your Return after the return has been fully processed.

What mistake did you make?

You return may be rejected by the IRS due to your mistake.  If so, just log back in, fix it, and then refile your return.

You should amend your return if you reported certain items incorrectly on the original return, such as filing status, dependents, total income, deductions or credits.

However, you don’t have to amend a return because of math errors you made; the IRS will correct those.

If your return gets accepted you won't be able to amend your return yet because the IRS hasn't released Form 1040X, the amended return form.  You should also wait until your return is fully processed (you receive your refund) before amending it to avoid confusion.

Check back in late February, when Form 1040X is typically released.

If you prepared your original tax return using TurboTax:

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Open the tax return you already filed.
  3. Click on the link to amend your return (which won't be available until mid-to-late February).
  4. The software will walk you through the process of filing the amendment.

My w2 does not match the wages I entered. They are off $600 because I did not realize my retirement opers was supposed to be filed on a different line. Now I have a 570 code on my transcripts and my SSA is not matching what I filed on my return. The return was not rejected but it is on hold now.
