Question

So I owed money when I first did my taxes, but then once the unemployment tax refund kicked in I had to amend my taxes, and I'm getting money back. Do I still owe?

I owed about $200, but now I'm getting about $1100 back. Do I have to pay off the $200, or will it be subtracted? Everytime I check the site here, it still just says I owe, and it won't let me track my refund, even though I got a paper confirming I was getting a refund.

did you file an amended return? that was a no-no. the IRS did not want amended returns filed for the UC change. the IRS WMR site does not reflect any refund that you may be getting because you filed your return before the law changed was reflected in the Turbotax app. nor is there a site t check up on the UC refund.  an amended return can take 4 to 6 months to process so filing it may delay the UC refund for months. since you apparently don't owe, don't pay the $200.

What does your amended return 1040-X say about your payment due (line 16)  ?

Because your original return did not show a refund, you won't be able to track your return on the

Where's My Refund page.

Because your amended return shows a refund, you will be able to track that on the

Where's My Amended Return? Page.

On June 14th I got notice from the IRS of my new refund, in paper, and what changed, including the $200 owe I had previously. All it really says is if I agree with the changes we did, I'm not to do anything, and if I don't, to call again. Refund wise it just says I should get the check within 2 to 3 weeks, but if I can't check that progress online like you said, then I guess my only option is to wait and hope. lol
